Welcome to Silverbirch Medical Practice

Welcome to the website of Silverbirch Medical Practice.  Our Doctors and Nurses provide a number of NHS and private clinics and services to almost 3000 local residents.  We are also a teaching practice linked to Queen's University Belfast School of Medicine.

We are currently accepting new patients - so if you are looking for a GP and live within our practice boundary then you are free to register with the practice. You can pop in to the surgery to get the registration documents or download the registration forms from this site.

We trust that this website will help you make the best use of all the services that we offer.

We are currently on RED ALERT due to exceptional demand and winter pressures.  Please see further details in News below.

Due to exceptional demand and winter pressures the Practice is currently on Red Alert.  This means we will increase our telephone triaging and emergency appointments and prioritise urgent problems first.  Unfortunately this means there will be no book same day appointments available for patients as these will be converted to emergency appointments and routine matters may take longer to deal with.  This situation has arisen despite having an additional GP in the Practice and having locums providing additional surgeries.  We would ask that all patients help ease the pressure on the practice by using self care where possible.  For Winter Ailments like coughs, colds and flu-like illnesses you can find advice on our Winter Ailments and Self Care pages.  We apologise for any inconvenience caused while we deal with these exceptional pressures.

Annie Keatley has retired

14th January 2018

Annie Keatley has retired after 6 years as a Receptionist at Silverbirch Medical Practice.  All the Doctors and Staff wish her a long and happy retirement.  She will be greatly missed!

If any patients would like to send best wishes or cards the staff will be happy to pass these on at her upcoming retirement party.

Prescriptions will now be ready 2 days after requested

20th October 2017

Several practices in the area recently attended a workshop to examine our prescribing protocols.  In response to a review of our protocol we have made a number of improvements to reduce errors and improve safety and governance.  As a result more time is needed for processing prescriptions.  For this reason there will now be a minimum 48 hour wait for all prescription requests unless deemed urgent by a doctor.  Please keep this in mind and order your prescriptions in good time.

Flu Clinics

20th October 2017

For anyone who missed the flu clinics on 7th and 11th October or the first catch up clinic on Thursday 19th October the next catch up clinic will be on Thursday 26th October from 2.00 pm to 6.00 pm.  We would encourage all eligible patients to get the flu vaccination as early as possible.  For more information see our Flu Vaccination page
