Meet our clinical staff
We have a team of dedicated healthcare professionals at Silverbirch Medical Practice dedicated to giving our patients the highest standard of medical care.
Dr Kinnear took over Silverbirch Medical Practice from Dr Majury on 1st October 2016. He completed his training in General Practice on the North Down Rotation working in both the Old Mill Surgery and the Webb, Stockman, Moffett Practice in Regency Medical Centre, Newtownards. Prior to that he completed training rotations in Paediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Ulster Hospital.
Before training in General Practice Dr Kinnear spent time as Medical Manager at the regional Health and Social Care Board and was a Registrar in Acute Medicine with additional training in Intensive Care Medicine. As part of his training in Acute Medicine he has undertaken training posts in General Medicine, Acute Medicine, Intensive Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, Cardiology, and Nephrology.
While working at Regency Medical Centre Dr Kinnear trained in Minor Surgery under Dr Stockman, who is a GP Dermatologist, and in Joint and Musculoskeletal Injections under Dr Webb, Sports Physician and Medical Director at Ulster Rugby.Dr Kinnear has a special interest in sports and musculoskeletal medicine, minor surgery, and travel medicine.
Outside General Practice Dr Kinnear enjoys spending time with his wife and son, walking, and learning to fly.
Dr Sara-Jane Howard MCRGP
Dr Howard trained in Keele and Stoke in England before returning to Northern Ireland. She joined the team at Silverbirch in September 2018.
Dr Ryan Hamilton MRCS MRCGP
Dr Hamilton provides our minor surgery service within the practice. Prior to becoming a GP he trained as a surgeon and completed his surgical post graduate exams. He now provides minor surgery in General Practice alongside his work in the GP Federation delivered vasectomy service. Dr Hamilton also trains other GPs in minor surgical skills.
Treatment Room NursesSister Pearl McAllister runs our treatment room and childhood immunisation programme. Her clinics are on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. She offers a full range of treatment room services.
Healthcare AssistantMrs Gillian Babb is our Healthcare Assistant. She provides phlebotomy, blood pressure monitoring, ABPI measurement, compression stocking measurement, ECG recording, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, and simple dressings.

Practice PharmacistMrs Orla Price is our Practice pharmacist working every Tuesday and Wednesday and alternate Fridays. She runs clinics for Asthma and COPD as well as dealing with medication queries and a wide range of medication related issues. Prior to joining Silverbirch Orla worked as a Practice Pharmacist in Crossgar and in Community Pharmacy.
Mrs Katy Lockhart is a paramedic who works in the Practice on Monday mornings. She previously worked as a paramedic in England and currently works as a Clinical Systems Developer - Paramedic Author for NHS Digital developing triage protocols.
CBT TherapistMr Alistair Shaw is our Cognitive Behavioural Therapist offering CBT appointments in the Practice on Wednesday mornings (alternate weeks).
Mrs Laura McClelland is our integrative counselling therapist. She offers appointments in the Practice on Monday mornings.
Dapne Glenn is the health visitor covering our Practice. She is based at Bangor Health Centre and can be contacted there.
Advanced Nurse Practitioner Trainee
Mrs Karen McCausland is a senior nurse working in the Enhanced Care at Home (ECAH) Service. She was previously our District Nursing Sister. Karen is already an independent nurse prescriber and is now undertaking a Masters in Advanced Nursing Practice to become an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in the ECAH service. She will be working alongside the GPs in our Practice as part of her training.
Our next medical student will be arriving shortly.
Physician Associate Student
Alexandra Heyburn is our current PA student from University of Ulster. She is in the first year of her PA studies.
